Close to 5:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 22 a group of friends began to arrive at the house to enjoy the gorgeous weather that the Higher Power provided for this auspicious occasion. Each new arrival, many of whom came armed with edibles, was greeted by an excited Shih Tzu named Kiki.
En route to the back yard /swimming pool while passing through the kitchen I was handed a cold beer, which I believe came from Holland, directly out of an electric cooler. As many of my friends can attest, I am a connoisseur of imported beer. I manage to maintain an average of a beer a year.
Moments later, the Barbecue was operational and slices of all beef salami were on the grill. Before you could ask, “Is that a Lester’s?” four men and five women were eating hor’s d’ oeuvres, barbequed chicken brochette, Eggplant Parmigianino prepared by Lily, and the world’s greatest potato salad prepared by Shirley.
But enough talk about food. Let’s get to the real reason we had all gathered at Danielle’s home. It was our weekly Poker night. Let the games begin. Before you could say “I’m stuffed!” the table in the dining room was converted into a professional poker table and chips were being bought by 9 players while Shirley read a book in the den and played with Kiki.
Did I say, “Enough talk about food?’ Halfway through the Poker game, we paused for Strawberry/Rhubarb pie, watermelon and blueberries. The game was over at midnight. Happy birthday, Danielle. We all love you. I posted this on my BLOG at the request of Len, who wasn’t able to attend.
