Blues Brothers Tribute Show

Under the Big Top

There once was a band that played a Blues Brothers tribute show, but what happens when you outshine the ‘tribute’ mantle? Allow me to introduce you to The Soul Men. With all due respect to the fine tribute bands, I have reviewed over the past few weeks, and those yet to come over the next few weeks, this was the show of shows.

From the moment these two danced their way onto the stage dressed in the compulsory black suits, black fedoras, white socks and dark glasses they had us locked in. Lead singer, Greg Hill is “Joliet” Jake E Blues and Brent Moetara on vocals and harmonica is brother Elwood J. Blues.

They exert so much energy as they leap around the stage, and especially Brent who is constantly leaping off the stage and running laps around the room while never ceasing to make the harmonica speak. I would like to give the full credit due to all the members of the amazing band, but unfortunately at the time I am writing this review I was unable to get the list of personnel. When I do receive it I will do an update on this show. The band consisted of keyboards, guitar, bass, and drums. The drummer and musical director was extraordinary and was featured doing a beautiful version of Ray Charles’ Georgia on My Mind. The Bass player, a Rock, and Roll Hall of Famer, I remember from another era when he played with Lou Reed on the Transformer LP. One of my favorite cuts was Take a Walk on the Wildside. Unfortunately, that album was the victim of a flood that took out a good part of a record collection that included a David Bowie collector’s album, but I digress,

Much more entertainment to follow in the tent. Stay informed at www.lastcallwithsol.com
